National Reconciliation Week

We were honoured to be part of this year’s National Reconciliation Week 2023 from 27 May to 3 June. Our theme ‘Be a Voice for Generations’ resonates deeply with us. We believe that public transport is not just about journeys—it’s about people, cultures, and shared experiences. As an organisation that serves a diverse community, we are uniquely positioned to contribute to the dialogue and actions of reconciliation in Australia.

We see our role in the reconciliation journey as threefold: to educate, to celebrate, and to connect. We strive to educate our staff and riders about the rich history and culture of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly through signage and displays on our trams and at our stations. We celebrate the contributions of all employees, and we foster connections between different communities through our service, breaking down barriers one journey at a time.

Our staff reflects the diverse community we serve, and we encourage every member to become a voice for reconciliation. We’re committed to ensuring that respect and understanding are at the core of our operations. This National Reconciliation Week, we’re reminded of the significant milestones we’ve reached, yet we’re also reminded of the distance we still need to cover. Join us as we commit to moving forward, creating an Australia strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We’re proud to be part of this journey, and we invite you to journey with us. Because at Torrens Connect, every ride is a step towards reconciliation.
